About ICAR:

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is the apex body for coordinating, guiding, and managing research and education in agriculture in the entire country under the aegis of Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

The ICAR-AU System of India has 74 Agricultural Universities comprising 63 State Agricultural, Veterinary, Horticultural and Fisheries Universities (SAUs), 4 ICAR-DUs (Deemed Universities), viz. Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) and Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE), 3 Central Agricultural Universities (CAU, Imphal, Dr. RPCAU, Pusa and Rani Lakshmibai Central Agricultural University (RLB CAU), Jhansi), 4 Central Universities (CUs) having Faculty of Agriculture (Banaras Hindu University, Aligarh Muslim University, Viswa Bharati and Nagaland University).

The National Agricultural Research and Education and Extension System (NAREES) of India is one of the largest agricultural research systems in the world, admitting more than 28,000 students at UG level and over 17,500 students at the PG and Doctoral level annually, in different disciplines of Agriculture and Allied Sciences.

About ICAR AICE-JRF/SRF (Ph.D):

It is an All India Competitive Examination (AICE) for –

  1. Admission to 25% seats in accredited Doctoral Degree Programmes of accredited Colleges of accredited Universities under ICAR-AU System (100% seats of ICAR Deemed Universities and Dr. RPCAU Pusa, ICAR-DUs in Doctoral Degree Programmes)
  2. Award of ICAR-JRF/SRF (Ph.D) in Agriculture & Allied Sciences.

Test would consist of three Sections:

  • Section A – First 20 MCQs will be common to all the 73 specialized Subjects. The questions assess the level of candidate’s awareness about the environment and its application to the society. The questions are based on general knowledge in the domain of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Dairying, Fisheries and Allied Sciences, etc. including current events and matters of everyday observation and experience.
  • Section B – 50 MCQs will be from the Core Group (Image Below) containing the specialized Subject opted by the candidate for pursuing Ph.D.
  • Section C – 50 MCQs will be from one of the specialized Subjects (Image Below) in Master’s degree opted by the candidate for pursuing Ph.D.

Fellowship:

The amount of fellowship will be at the rate of Rs.31,000/- p.m. for the 1st and 2nd years (JRF) and Rs. 35,000/- p.m. for the 3rd year (SRF).

Contingency grant:

Contingent grant of Rs. 10,000/- per year for procurement of essential chemicals, books, and travel connected with research work will be uniformly paid to all the awardees including in-service candidates.

Follow the steps given below to Apply Online:

  1. Apply for Online Registration using unique Email Id and Mobile No.
  2. Fill in the Online Application Form and note down the system generated Application No.
  3. Upload scanned images of Candidate’s Photograph (file size: 10 kb – 200 kb), Candidate’s Signature (file size: 4 kb – 30 kb) and Thumb impression (file size: 3 kb-30 kb) in JPG/JPEG format.
  4. Pay fee using SBI/Canara/HDFC/ICICI/Paytm Payment Gateway through Debit Card/Credit Card/Net Banking/UPI and keep proof of fee paid.

All the 4 Steps can be done together or at separate timings.
